Aorere College is located in the southern part of Auckland close to the Auckland International Airport, with a widely multi-cultural student population of 1500. Students are of mostly Polynesian origin from Samoa, Tonga, the Cook Islands, Fiji and New Zealand Maori. A broad variety of subjects and sports are offered and include Te Reo Maori, French and Samoan languages. Our Dance, Drama and Music Departments are successful, with choirs frequently winning New Zealand competitions. Waka Ama (rowing of the big Maori boats) and Kilikiti (Samoan cricket) are popular. At the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup 2011 one choir and the Kapa Haka Group (Maori cultural group) were chosen to perform. The school’s outdoor education programme develops strong character and leadership qualities.
