Girls Innov8 Camp

The Girls Innov8 camp, is an inspiring camp for girls to learn and explore robotics, apps, computers, coding and also have the privilege of meeting powerful and encouraging women who have succeeded in the IT field. The three day camp was held at St Cuthbert’s school during the holidays for 15-17 year old girls. It was not only about an opportunity to deal with advanced technology, but also about expanding our potential. Luckily my application was accepted in one of the three sponsored places with girls from Tikipunga HS and Fairfield HS to be a part of this wonderful experience. We learnt an interesting variety of different things; coding, controlling robots, creating our very own app and more! The highlight of this camp, was being in the presence of such powerful and determined women, who encouraged us to pursue, not only what we want to do, but also opened up the possibilities of a variety of pathways in IT. I have been asked to help teach younger kids advanced technology at Mangere Library every Saturday. I would advise girls who are interested in IT to apply for this camp, as anything is possible. I would like to thank Mrs White for helping me apply for the place as the opportunities I have now would not be possible without her help. - Ruth Tongotongo, 12GE
