Access to Digital Technology for Learning
Access to a digital device and the internet is essential in a modern learning environment. All students are required to have access to a device and the internet at home as they need to be able to access work remotely and continue work at home should physical attendance at school not be possible. It is expected that families provide a chrome book at the minimum for their children. However, if there are financial constraints, the school will support families with loan devices. Cell phones are not suitable for school work and are not permitted in classrooms as they provide continual distraction for students which impacts on their learning.
English Language Learning
We also offer a fully resourced English Language Learning programme for students who have languages other than English as their first language. This includes a reception programme for students with very little English and additional courses to support mainstream English Language Learners in their development of English. Students in the mainstream who are working towards University Entrance can also be supported through ELL to gain a UE literacy qualification.
Te Puawaitanga o Aorere
Te Puawaitanga o Aorere offers its neurodiverse learners a space to grow and thrive. From programmes that are catered to each individual's needs, Te Puawaitanga works alongside each rangatira to build a pathway to success that is personalized for them.
This programme offers development in essential skills such as literacy and numeracy as well as a supportive classroom environment with additional teacher aide support. Senior students also have the opportunity to explore pathways into work and attend tertiary courses where appropriate. In 2025, Te Puawaitanga o Aorere will offer students the opportunity to gain a NCEA qualification or a New Zealand Foundation Skills Certificate. Depending on where there rangatira is in their learning journey will determine, alongside whanau, which qualification is best suited for them.
